Meanwhile 01 45 27 Richard Wilkins PTC RICHARD WILKINS Lou took his time away from Foreigner to enter rehab for his cocaine and alcohol addiction … where he found both lasting sobriety and Christianity. When Mick reached out to a clean and sober Lou in 1992 to do some work on a greatest hits compilation, the project led to a reunion between the pair … and Lou was once again the singer for Foreigner. In 1995 the band released Mr Moonlight … 01 45 53 Richard Wilkins PTC RICHARD WILKINS and while it failed to set the charts alight, the fans were still flocking to the live shows and so Foreigner hit the road for the next few years. 01 46 02 Richard Wilkins PTC RICHARD WILKINS But the day before the band was due to embark on their 1997 tour of Japan, the unthinkable happened. An MRI revealed an egg sized tumour in Lou’s brain … and although it was benign, it was growing so rapidly that it would prove fatal within months if left alone. 01 46 19 Richard Wilkins PTC RICHARD WILKINS Thankfully a doctor was quickly found to perform the cutting edge surgery needed to save Lou’s life, 01 46 25 Black & White Still – Lou Gramm performing in 1991 RICHARD WILKINS but the operation and the subsequent medication took a dramatic toll on his body. His weight ballooned and he often struggled to breathe.
